About

LABDesign came about after some discussions between Liam Byrnes and Calvin Hanson as a ‘tent-making’ idea to continue working as Missionaries.

Calvin owned a design business for many years (Design Smart –  Our US sister company) before becoming a missionary, Liam has been designing websites for just over 10 years, and has worked in corporate technology acquisition, email and web infrastructure installations.

After talking both were convinced that it was a great way to continue both of their passions, technology and design as well as following vocational calls of ministry.

Something we think is unique about employing LABDesign is that not only are you assured of professional level design but 100% of the profit is fuelled into not-for-profit activities. By working with us you help fund missionaries that work to bring people out of poverty and into community working to bring justice by exposing modern day slavery known as human trafficking.

To find out more about what we do when we are not stuck in front of computer screens, tinkering and designing, check out our Missionary Blogs:

Longer term vision

Once we are financially stable in South Africa, We would love this to become a social enterprise. We think business isn’t just a way to make money for missions, IT IS Missions, and we would love to see LABDesign be able to train and employ local men and women from Masiphuemelele in South Africa where unemployment is around 40% and working conditions for those who are employed are often expolitative. I wrote an article about business as mission here if you would like to read more.
