This is the online residence of Liam Alan Byrnes, He’s all over this Internet stuff so decided He should draw a little map of all the places, he hangs out online.
WHO AM I?
HELLO! My Name is Liam and I Made this Website. That’s me up there, Im driving a moped and having a photo taken at the same time, it’s not to be advised, as you end up looking pretty stupid and almost falling off.
Here’s a little bit about me:
I am 24, I grew up in Cornwall, in England.

Lostwithiel, Cornwall
I moved to Aberdeen in Scotland to study Politics and ended up Studying Theology.

University of Aberdeen
Whilst in Aberdeen I came across a pretty extraordinary woman, and asked her the marry me (condensed version), and she fell for it!

Liam and Rachel Byrnes
I worked in Aberdeen, Scotland as an Operations Co-ordinator for Marine Seismic Surveys, until very recently.

Seismic Surveys
Now Rachel and I are working with All Nations, Southern Africa lifting people out of poverty, working with single mothers, and starting simple churches, Read More here.

South Africa
MISCELLANY
I Like good coffee, and I’ve visited the Jamaican Blue Mountains and the Coffee Farms in Kona Hawaii which are two of the best sources for coffee beans you can get.
I love Guitars, in fact I’m a geek about them, if only I could play to the level of knowledge I’ve collected on guitars and guitar equipment, I’d be in a relatively successful function band.
GEEKERY
PUBLISHING ENGINES
This site runs on Wordpress, which is surely the best CMS available (I can talk on that for a while if you ask me some time), I have 0.1% ability in CSS so I used the Viewport theme as a structure for the site.
I’ve tried to use Mars Edit and Ecto, the two most popular pieces of software and never really enjoyed either. I have, surprisingly, found that windows live writer is my blog writer of choice, so I am making an attempt to run it in the release candidate of Windows7 using Sun systems virtual box on a macbook pro. I look at numbers and pie charts about you all in Google Analytics.
HISTORY
I’ve been writing online from about 2004, most of it has been drivel, some of it has been good. I started blogging here (2004-2006), then moved here (2006-2009), and now do some microblogging (definition) here (2009).
DESIGN
The photo in the background was taken in December 2007 in Venice from the Piazza San Marco, it has been helped along by a little bit of warmth from Photoshop CS. Most of the photos on this site can be found on my flickr site.
HOSTING
This site is hosted by theobloggers, part of the branchweaver group who have out of this world technical support by Brad Palmore.
HARDWARE SETUP
My current setup is a 15-inch Unibody MacBook Pro 2.6/4GB/320GB (the one with the express card slot). At the moment I either sit at our kitchen table with it or on the bed, as we only have two rooms in our house right now! We were recently gifted the majority of the cost of the macbook pro from a good friend, it is a joy! Before that has been the iBook G4 I “accidentally” bought on ebay a few years ago. Woefully, some of this site was also created in spare time at work on a windows machine.
ALSO WORTH MENTIONING
Im a bit of a technology evangelist, if something works, I like to tell people about it. Here are some things that just work:
- iPhone 3G – don’t listen to the haters, a superb device, endless possibilities.
- iPod Touch 2G – The little brother of the above, does 80% for about 10% of the cost.
- Mailchimp – Great tool for mass emails that people will actually want to read
- Canon Digital Cameras – I wouldn’t buy any other brand of digital compact after owning 2.
- Google Reader – Read a lot of websites? Want to keep up to date, RSS is the only real way of doing it productively, and Google Reader is the pick of the bunch.
- GAFYD – Have your own domain? You should be running Google Apps.
